Another KDE themes thread

Hey,

So I've downloaded the polyester theme from kde-look.org for some KDE practice. The site tells me it's a widget style + kwin decoration package.

I've also read a couple different threads regarding the impossibility of installing new KDE themes.

So my question is, of course, how the deuce do I install it... and better yet, what the heck do I do with it?

That might seem a little thick of me, but I mean to say I can't find it in theme manager, and I don't know how to apply the individual widgets on my own.

I have:

1. untarred the file
2. ./configure ; make ; make installed the thing

I cannot:

1. find any kdmrc files anywhere - I've dug through the .kde folders and the closest I've found is the kfmrc file.
2. install via kdethemes in kcontrol

I am also using slackware 10.2.

Cheers!

Might be a stupid suggestion, but did you try just looking for it in the "Appearance and Themes"->"Style" menu in Control Center?

I ask because I did almost exactly what you described (on Slackware 10.2) and it worked fine. All I did differently was use checkinstall instead of make install so I could remove the theme easily if I need to.

Good luck.

edit: I uploaded the package I made to LinuxPackages.net if you want to try it.

Kdmrc files have nothing to do with KDE styles, they are for KDM (login manager) settings. aquaboogie90 is right, if your theme compiled successfully, then take a look at the various sections in Kcontrol -> Appearance & Themes to enable various elements of the theme.

Ah, so I was looking in the wrong place entirely.

Cheers!
