amaroK problems

I've installed amaroK on a fedora core 5 distribution via yum.
I now have the amaroK 1.4 beta 3. But it can't play mp3s.
when I am trying to play a song I get the following message:
the gst10-engine claims it cannot play mp3 files.
I tried with beta 1 and I got the same result.
I installed on my computer the xmms-mp3 codec.
xmms works fine.
Is it because of the codec or the problem is with amarok.
I couldn't find an earlier and more stable version.

Fedora does not include mp3 support in the distro. You can install xine and win32 codecs from third party repos such as livna and then use the xine engine instead of gstreamer.

I've visited livna, but I don't know how o install the xine engine.

You need to follow the instructions for setting up the livna yum repo then do "yum install xine-lib win32codecs". After that start amarok and change the engine from gstreamer to xine.
