amarok not retrieving podcasts

i've just upgraded to opensuse 10.3, and trying to add podcasts to amarok. i start it, add it, but it wont retrieve any of the podcasts. i did the same thing for 10.1 and 10.2, and it worked, so im not sure whats different now. it just times out and says 'unable to connect to podcast server'

also, i mostly connect via proxy on windows, im trying to find the settings for that on amarok, as i thought maybe itd be the problem, but i cant find it.

please help

I think you have found the source of the problem, the proxy.I don't know what you can do to fix it though. In amarok settings, under engine, you can input proxy info for streams, but I don't think this works for podcasts. Try searching around, or asking in the amarok mailing list.

Also, please reply to this tread with the solution, if you find it. I am sure there are more people than you out there with this problem. I am interested in the solution myself, but this is not a big issue for me, since the only place I encounter a proxy is at school. This is also why I haven't bothered to find a solution myself.

Does it work if you put your proxy settings in the KDE control panel:
  • Run kcontrol
  • Goto Internet & Network -> Proxy
  • Check the "Manually specify the proxy settings" option
  • Click the "Setup" Button to the right of the "Manually specify the proxy settings" radio button
  • Enter Proxy settings.
I would be very interested to find out if this works or not (I am not sure if it works or not).

thanks - sounds like it just might, it makes sense :)

it kinda sorted the proxy problem (have no idea how!!! i tried like a million things) - so amarok worked. right now, i don't even have a linux anymore - my xorg died (NVIDIA!!!!)

i'm reinstalling and ill post how it goes here. if my other magical way works or if this does.

i have another thread (opps) with the whole proxy problem, YAST, updates etc not just amarok in 'software'. seems to be a very popular problem - there is an opensuse fix, but it didnt work for me.

Amarok not retrieving podcasts

I use Amarok on a Gnome system and was having the same problem. Couldn't use the KDE proxy settings directly. After a little investigation, I discovered that Amarok uses the proxy settings from Konqueror (where I had accidentally set the proxy for use from my work).

Yeah, amarok and most of the other programs use konqueror settings. So if proxy works in konqueror, everything should be fine.

Sorted out the proxy problem, my provider gave me a different address and that solved most of my problems.
