The one in the Arch repo is 1.4.9.1 and the current stable release, which came out a month ago is 1.4.10, not a huge difference. It has been marked out of date, when the maintainer gets around to it, it will be updated. If you really can't wait, ABS is there for you to build your own package.
Testing can be great for new releases, but as long as you realize by installing them, you really are testing them. They won't always be perfect and it really helps the process if you file bug reports. If you are good at solving your own problems, can tolerate breakage and are willing to file bug reports, then testing is for you.
