Unhappy Amarok doesn't have anything for ubuntu.

I just installed Ubuntu on my computer and I tried to download itunes. Well, obviously, it didn't work. So I search the internet for awhile going to linux forums, and reading what the other people who have had my problem got as answers. Amarok seems to be what everyone was talking about, so I went to their sight, and they have things for all different types of linux..except ubuntu (http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Download). Is there anything else I should use? I really just want to be able to add songs to and update my ipod. Please help.

Thank you.

Take a look at Banshee, according to the Ubuntu community documentation, it works quite well with iPods. I'm assuming Amarok doesn't have an Ubuntu package because it's a KDE-based application, while Ubuntu is Gnome. Banshee is Gnome-based, so it should work better overall.

Enter the APT line below that corresponds to your Ubuntu version that starts with "deb".

Which one do I chose? https://edge.launchpad.net/~banshee-team/+archive/ppa

I have Ubuntu 8.10 if that means anything?

Last week I used a program called songbird and it worked fine first time with my two ipods.
Songbird is a basically a clone of itunes cept its black by default. You just have to make sure you set your system to automount the ipod when you insert the cable. On KDE it is just right click the icon and select automount.

I forgot to mention Rhythmbox as well, that's another great one.

To install Banshee either use Synaptic or run sudo apt-get install banshee
Same goes for Rhythmbox, sudo apt-get install rhythmbox

I haven't run Songbird on Ubuntu, but I've heard nothing but good things (one of my friends is contributing to the project )

IMHO amarok doesn't have ubuntu listed there because it is a KDE application and ubuntu uses gnome. But gnome can use KDE applications without any issues.

You can install amarok straight from ubuntu repositories. GO to system -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager, search for amarok, right click on the search result and mark for installation, and click apply.

You should have amarok in your Sound and Video menu.

Code:
apt-get install amarok
They don't list buntu packages because they are in the repos.
