Am unable to install my new Cannon MG 5460 Printer

I recently bought a new printer and find that I am unable to install it on my laptop. My son has told me that I need a printer that is compatable with Linux, unfortunateley I was not aware of that when I bought it. Can someone let me know if it is compatable.
Thanks Jan
