am i really this stupid?

i installed fc2 on a machine.
yaaaay linux works.
just in case i even wrote my password down so i wouldn't forget.
used it for a couple days then i hit the books soakin up all the info i could.

well last night i decided to test out a few more commands.

booted up machine and was prompted for localhost login (no suprise there)

entered my username of root
and my password

"Invalid Login" error

say whaaaaa??

there's no way. i even tried typos for my password just in case.
but i KNOW my password is correct.

I've got to be missing something here

guess i'll have to reinstall lol... i'm such a no0b

thanks,
Brandon

Boot into Single-User mode
You might have an option for it in LILO/GRUB for Single-user, failsafe, etc
use taht
then change the root pass

Also, Linux passwords are case sensitive -- make sure you don't have caps lock stuck on or something like that.

single user mode?`

You totally lost me with the single user mode thing.

I think i'm just going to reinstall... maybe i did forget the password or typed it wrong.

thanks for the time

Why don't you do a google or search this forum for single user mode instead? It's really not all that hard. You are probably using GRUB as your bootloader, so I think the way to do it is to press 'e' at the boot menu and append single at the end of the line. I use LILO personally, so I'm not 100% sure.

Yep, unless you have some grub/lilo hacks up your sleeves and you can't login your gonna need to reinstall. Seeing how you just installed it and have no other data on this system that would definently be the way to go.

Do make sure your caps key isnt on (as mentioned above) and your root login user is 'root' (haha-newbie stuff). :)
