alsaconf failure

Hello. I have just installed MANDRAKE 10.1, and I just can't configure my sound card. It is an old isa card, so I ran alsaconf, but with every available driver I try it either does not work or start screeching randomly forcing me to shutdown.

I add as information that previously I had an old slacware distribution in which alsaconf configured my sound card correctly at first attempt...

my card is Crystal sound cs4236...

Any suggestion on how I could try to install it other than with alsaconf?

Thanks

I would suggest you to download Latest 1.0rc1 alsa sources http://www.alsa-project.org/ and compile and install them, which solves issues with ISA sound cards.

on my slackware system it was not detecting als100 ISA sound card. After installating alsa-1.0rc1, it could detect it.

Download these sources and compile and install:

ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/drive....10rc2.tar.bz2
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/lib/a....10rc2.tar.bz2
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/plugi....10rc1.tar.bz2
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/utils....10rc2.tar.bz2
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/tools....10rc2.tar.bz2
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/oss-l....10rc2.tar.bz2

Make sure,

you have developement packages installed, and kernel sources installed, and compile in top-down order, start with alsa-driver then alsa-lib then alsa-plugins ... till alsa-oss.

then run alsaconf to (hopefully) detect your sound card.
