Alsa Driver Install Errors in Ubuntu 8.10

Hey, can anyone tell help with installing the alsa driver 1.0.9 for an hda intel sound card? Every time I try to compile (or install) the driver in terminal it fails. The alsa-utils and the alsa-lib compile and install fine. I followed the instructions on this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

Could you post the output of the failed compile attempt?

thanks for replying joshuas3521, I found part of the problem on another thread. I hadn't installed the new linux-headers. I did that and got the files for the 1.0.18 release of the alsa driver. I don't know how to install the new driver though. The old method doesn't work. Could you tell me how to install the driver, lib, utils, tools, and plugins in terminal please? thanks again
