alsa & microfone modules

hello
i am having problems configuring my microfone.
My sound works. this means my audio is propely configured. in my alsamixer i have raised to almost maximum all i cound and placedcapture on mic and on capture.
I have also raised to almost maximum everithind in Kmix.
However, i canot record usink Krec and therefore skype doesn't work.
When i run arecord as root, it seems to work, because when i speak on my microfone, some strange simbols apears on my console. I can gess that tghose are the frequance of the sound arecord is recording, therefore the microfone is working and is reconised by my sitem. However i havn't been able to save what i recorded with arecord and therefore confirm my hipithesis. And this doesn't serve me, i need to have skype working. May it be some modules problems?
What must i do? Krec doen't seem to see my mic and so does skype. arecord seems to work from root(i coudn't run it from normal user)
Help.
Please help
thank you in advance

Have you checked your alsa config yet? you may need to turn the line in feed on the alsa mixer.

permission denied to alsa

I canot have my microphone working as a user. I have alsa configured and my modules probed. My sound works. I know that in orther to have my mic working too, i must configure the Sound System in the kde control panel. And st the sound I/O method to ALSA. However it tels me: permissionn denied. And moreover, it gives me no reference file for me to check. As root, my mic works, it is as a normal user that id doesn't. I can't always be as root. Moreover, as root skype won't work, nor UT2004. Please help me

What are the ownerships and permissions on
the relevant devices?

ls -l /dev/snd*
or whatever they're called in alsa :)

Cheers,
Tink
