alsa 1.0.5 problem

Hi,

My OS is RH9.0 and kernel is 2.4, because linux can't figure out my soundcard, I install ALSA1.0.5, but meet some problems.

first, when i enter alsa-driver/utils , i can't find alsa.conf, so i can't go on my installation.

then i get some advice to instill alsa-utils first, i do, but meet another problem, HERE
Code:
checking for ALSA LDFLAGS... -lasound -lm -ldl -lpthread
checking for libasound headers version >= 0.9.0... not present.
configure: error: Sufficiently new version of libasound not found.
i don't know what it means and how to handle, so please someone could help me!

thx in advance!

You need to install libasound libraries for alsa to work.
search for alsa-lib at rpmseek.net, download the version elevant to your architecture

do a rpm -ivh to install the libasound library and then install alsa-utils
