I've been tinkering around with VectorLinux for the last few days and have yet to gain access to my second harddrive (with win xp) yet... i've been through trying to persuade lilo to load but with no success... so i'm now looking at installing grub... i've been reading the installation instructions carefully and following them to the best of my ability but have not had any success (trying to install in linux)... could someone either help me with a way to fix the lilo problem or replace lilo with grub (walkthrough style)? I would very much appreciate the effort...
hda = vector linux
hdb = windows xp (unaccesible through lilo, just hangs with the statement "loading windows"...

And here is what I get when I try to install GRUB... (don't even know if current lilo setup will conflict with new grub install... will it?...
vector:/~/GRUB
root:# grub-install /dev/hda
grub-probe: error: unknown filesystem
Auto-detection of a filesystem module failed.
Please specify the module with the option `--modules' explicitly.
Windows will not boot from a secondary HDD. Ask MS why. I don't know. The solution is mapping drives in Lilo conf to present hdb as primary IDE drive. See Lilo documentation how to do it, can't tell you from memory. Serching these forums will help, too.
Thanks for the reply... I'm trying to locate that information now but am not having much luck yet... strange that with GRUB i never had this problem... maybe someone knows specifically how i can get lilo to find windows on the second hard drive through lilo.conf?
