Ok, most likely you have tarballs. So if you have glibc installed to verify if so run:
rpm -q glibc
it has to come up with glibc-version-release
then to install glibc version of AGS open up an XTerm (like DOS prompt) and
cd /into/derictory/where/AGS/was/downloaded
tar xvfz AGS-file.tar.gz
cd AGS-file #note without tar.gz
./AGSatellite
but before you run it create in this derictory a file called
account.txt
with two lines:
first is your e-mail address you were registered with on their site
secound is your password
Now go to their website and run from XTerm
./AGSitellite
that's all.
this is only semi-related. When I had AG under win98, I found out about alot of spyware that AG put on your computer without your permission. I had to get into my Registry and get rid of a vx2.dll file which was reporting all my browsing history back to advertisers. I was wondering why I was getting bombarded with popups after getting AG. Anyway, alot of AG users were highly pissed when this was found out. If I ever install AG for linux, will I have to worry about spyware again? I know what I am doing in Windows and know how to keep my computer clean, but I am a newbie in linux and dont know how to fight back on the spyware issue. Is linux susceptible to spyware or is spyware problem only in windows? thanks
Sorry to resurrect this old chestnut - but I can't get it to work.
The program seems to run - but I have in account my username and password. If I put in my email, then I am immediately told that it's an invalid account and I need to edit account.txt. So, I tried my username to which it just goes away and nothing else.
A good page to show you how to install the AG satellite is:
users.netwit.net.au/~pursang/linsat.html
Last I checked, it wasn't loading, although it was loading last night, so I don't know what's up with the page. Anyway, if you can get to it, it's really good. It goes into some depth about which directories to install to and which directories to share. There is also a link to a .rpm file.
I followed the instructions and was able to download some .mp3s. But I can't play them with xmms! I think this is due to directory permissions, which I'm still learning about. I just don't know what those little red symbols in nautilus mean.

Well, if you took the time to read the agreement that you clicked "ok" on when you installed AG, you will see it tells you about the spyware as well as how to get rid of it. BTW, they took this out of the latest version for windoze.
