again fsck
hi all,
after repartitioning the /home partition an rebooting the system, mandrake 9.1 came up with this error message: fsck.ext3: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/had9 e2fsck 1.32 (09-Nov-2002) /dev/hda6: clean, 60890/1860480 files, 289196/3715023 blocks [FAILED] *** An error occurred during the file system check. *** Dropping you to a shell; the system will reboot *** when you leave the shell. Give root passwort for maintance (or type Control-D for normal startup): when i run fsck i get the message: fsck failed on /dev/hda8 with exit code 8 or signal 0 what can i do to bring my system up again?? thanks for help greetz Toasti |
what did you do when you repartitioned your /home partition? Did you edit the /etc/fstab accordingly after you did it? Also, is either of /dev/hda8 or /dev/hda9 your home partition?

hi,
yes i edited the /etc/fstab /dev/hda8 and /dev/hda9 are mounted as /multimedia and /programs but the funny thing is, when deleting the two from fstab the system comes up. now i repartioned again and now it works!! but theres another question i have: i got this new harddisk (seagate 120gb 7200 8mb), so i decided to make this one as master and my old one (seagate 30gb 5400 2mb) as slave and to install mandrake new. this worked really fine, but after installation the system is perhaps 30% slower as without the new harddisk! mandrake says this is because of usb, but i have no usb drives installed! as filesystem i'm using ext3. the hdds are looking like this: hda |- / (5.8gb) -|- swap (494mb) -|- /usr (14gb) -|- /var (19gb) -|- /home (29gb) -|- /multimedia (41gb) -| hdb |- /mnt/win_c (3.9gb) -|- /mnt/win_d (3.8gb) -|- /backup (20gb) -| are the partitions to big or why is my system this slow??? thanks for help Toasti |
