After installing madriva 2008 both sound and cd, DVD and USB were working fine untill

After runnung an automatic update i have no sound (error message is "Mixer cannot be found") and for CD, DVD the error message is

"org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result)"

I am only able to access them after physically mounting them though entries for automation are in fstab.

How can i resolve these?

hi

About the sound:
i guess the upgrade messed up your sound settings. try configuring them. (i suppose you have to make it use ALSA, if i get what is wrong here)

About the drives (CD/DVD):
try downgrading packages that have to do with GNOME. It looks like the changes in the device management software of gnome produced sh*t in your case; perhaps later upgrades of gnome and things will fix it again, if it's a bug in gnome. It could be an error with how your system is configured (by the distro or by you, i can't tell).
