After install of Ubuntu a screen saying GNU GRUB version 1.99-12ubuntu5

Hello recently I built a computer with an msi 970A-G43, AMD FX 6300, and GSkill Ripjaw 2gb ram and was wondering if there's any compatibility issues because after installing Ubuntu it does not show up on the boot options I have searched far and wide for the answer and would be grateful if someone were to help.

It just stays there? Did the installer say that it was done & ask for a reboot?

On a system like yours in which you indicate you have only ubuntu installed, it should have defaulted to installing its bootloader to the master boot record. It's expected behavior to not show a boot menu with only one OS on Ubuntu. You would need to post a lot more info to get any help and one of the best ways to do that is to run the bootinfoscript from the Ubuntu install medium, link below:

this must mean that the install went through to the end because grub has been installed.
you have to press up/down arrow buttons until desired entry is highlighted, then press enter.

although, it should do that automatically
