After insatlling centos 5.5 input/output error is coming

Hi,
I installed centos 5.5 on my HDD, after complete installation it asked to reboot the system then i rebooted it,
then it shows these two errors with continious scrolling

/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: line 964: /sbin/pidof: input/output error
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: line 966: /bin/usleep: input/output error

This could possibly be a hardware problem; I recommend double checking your RAM by pulling it out, and using one slot at a time just to make sure. Overall, this could be resulting from a number of things. I also advise that you run memtest86 on your system to see if you get any errors. What kind of computer and hardware are you using?
