advent 7086 - Slackware and GFX Drivers

Hello guys.

Iv been away for erm... a while.

Just got back, and the last thing I had to do before I left with my new laptop was to get slackware using the 3D Accelerated side of my gfx chipset. which I think is an SIS onboard deal.

For the life of me I cant find any details on the chipset and finding a website for Advent is hopeless.

I think advent is a brandname made by PCWorld(UK) but they dont have anything listed for them or any Advent websites that I can find.

What I need is some help to get the Drivers, or Software so that my slackware will use the 3D side of the chipset.

thanks in advance.

Welcome to Slackware!!!Whoo Hoo, you're in for it now....lol

Ok. Lets discuss this in two points:
  1. There is a specific Slackware forum here, and your questions get answered very quickly there. Use this link to get to it. However, lets keep this question here, don't post it again in the Slackware forum.
  2. You wish for your video to be accererated? Read my post about DRI (Use this link)
But for now, can you post the results of the following (May need to run as root or su to root):
Code:
lspci #This will give us your hardware chip names, etc.
lsmod # This will tell us what modules you have running.
As far as drivers go, lets figure out what you really have first, ok?

We will get this going as fast as possible as soon as possible...

Cant copy and paste so I might miss something out..

VGA compatible controller : Silicon Int sys(SIS) [SiS] 661/741/760/761 PCI/AGP Display Adapter

there were others but I figure thats the important one.

the other command displaed something like this.

sis900 12780 1

that was the only thing on the list that looked like it had to do with gfx.

Hope this helps. does that mean I have the sis900 chip ? but I am running the the wrong driver? or does it mean I have the 661...761 chip and I am running the sis900 driver..

thanks for your reply.

Here's an experiment.
Run
Code:
xorgsetup
as root.

That should setup 99% of your stuff automatically (except scrolling mouse, and maybe other stuff)

Do that, let us know...
