Could you please give us more informations about your modem and your hardware ?

I'm using Broadband with a sagem 800 USB and it rocks.
Broadband settings are made within Mandrake installation, it works fine, without a problem.

Mdk 9.1 is a good distro for beginners ( i am one ! :D )

Youre question quite possibly has been answered on the forum I linked to, also if you want any more information about ADSL hardware etc. in general there are loads of boards there.

even having been to the site you linked to i have not found anything that has helped, Mandrake doesn't even find my modem, is there anything else i can do

Have you tried posting on thier boards as there are loads of people using Linux and USB modems???

Personally I wouldnt touch a USB modem as they can increase the attenuation on the line.

Also if you were to use a Router it would allow you to shareyour connection with other PC's and also as the router would connect to your Linux box via Etbernet it would work as soon as it was plugged in.

Still no luck i've tried so many guide and how-to's now i think i'm going to go mental. Anyone know of any way this will work, if u use a bt voyager 100 please tell me how you got it working, i need help sooooo much

don't get it

I use mandrake 9.1 and am a newbie. I have the speedtouch usb modem and adsl.

all you do is run mandrake config manager and use the drak wizard to setup the conection. The wizard will detect your conection, then you add your isp details as you do in windows. I then had to load a microcode file ( mgmt.o ), which drak told me about and then bingo, internet.

I don't see the problem. Stick at it and do a google search, if you want things easy, stick to windows, linux takes some working at, but ultimately is more furfilling.

^ Thats the guide i used

http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/

^ The official Alcatel site i also used.

Follow em through, it's step by step. When you come to the modem firmware bit though, you need to make sure you use mgmnt.o and not the dll from the windows disk, that does'nt work properly. You'll probably have a real hard time getting the mgmnt.o file downloaded as it's no longer in use, but i'm mailing a copy to you.

I'm assuming that being BT your on the alcatal manta ray modem.

Let me know how you go !!!

Edit : Hang on you never left your e-mail, how do you want me to send that file???
Evil

DOH!!!! Never mind... on it's way
