ADSL connection problems with LinuxOver the last few
Over the last few months I began to experiment with Linux via Knoppix and Suse live CDs. My main problem was that I couldn't get online with my Speedtouch 330 ADSL modem. My research on the net made it clear that many other people had had similar problems. I found volumes of help and advice on various forums, but to no avail. I couldn't get it working and so I almost gave up on Linux. After many headaches, I bought a broadband router and that provided an instant solution to my problem. My connection worked perfectly with Knoppix, Suse, and Fedora Core, which I now use as my main operating system.
The reason for this post is to provide explicit advice for anybody who is experiencing similar problems in connecting to ADSL through Linux. Connect a broadband router to your ethernet card. This solution may seem obvious to more experienced users, but the same advice would have been invaluable to me a few months ago.
