I found these error messages in the looking glass
weathermockturl error No JS module settings found in seach path
&
failed to load applet panel:right:0:weather@mockturtltype error:e is null

what version of cinnamon do you have?

Not sure its a fresh and updated mint 13 so 1.4? where do I look to find out

well, that weather applet is for 1.8+

in settings --> hardware system info is where you will find version

I seem to be running the latest version checked using terminal. Im very new to mint/linux, about 2 weeks so Im still stumbing round not really knowing what Im doing, so I appreciate your patience

latest version never means anything to me

The reason I used terminal, I couldn't find a number all it said was that it was cinnamon. I've also installed cjs, no change, same error messages when I restart

full install of Mint13, full upgrade ( which seemed to take twice as long as the install )

cinnamon --version
Cinnamon 1.4.0


I will look at the older versions of that applet

cd 
mkdir CinWeather
pushd CinWeather
   wget https://github.com/mockturtl/cinnamon-weather/archive/v1.4.tar.gz
   pushd $(tar vxf v1.4.tar.gz | head -n1)
     ./install.sh
   popd
popd

then add via applets menu, restart cinnamon ( alt+f2 r )

something I didn't try was the later versions
