Sorry to ask again, I am new to this (Ubuntu) and linux. Would like to Upgrade to Super (Ubuntu) OS 10.10 Please could you kindly let me know how this is done...In detail....as I have being trying to do this since I started with Ubuntu 09.04 Was able to download a copy of Super OS 10.10 from a torrent site and put on DVD, I think I have the wrong version, it tries to install via " Wine" so I think it's version for "Windows" I an assuming that I should have a 32bit version. History:- I was able to install 09.04 from a CD and I have replaced the old HD for a new larger one before installation. *Installed* on Dell Dimension 2400 with 80GB HD & 500MB Ram, first stalled was Ubuntu 9.04 since then it has been upgraded to each time there has been an upgrade,* now using Ubuntu 10.10 (which has worked much better than earlier versions which crashed a lot) Ubuntu 10.10* has NEVER crash. Thanks Richard |
Did you read the "Adding the repository" section on the page you linked to?
Try: Code:
wget http://hacktolive.org/files/Super_OS_repo_0.3.2.deb Evo2. |
Thanks Evo2. I have type in Terminal:- sudo dpkg -i Super_OS_repo_0.3.2.deb
I have also Download "Installs repository for Super OS" via Ubuntu Software Centre. Also Download the following RUNZ via Ubuntu Software Centre. http://fdc8e2.cramit.in/d/vclipt6byh...rade_pack.runz. What must I do now ? Thanks again Richard 14 |
If the Super_OS_repo package installed correctly then, I guess the SuperOS packages should be available through your package manager.
Cheers, Nick. |
Still no luck !
Found and ran programs in packet manager. It installed some of the prog's but keep asking for the Ubuntu Disk 10.10 which I do not have. I did have a disk with Ubuntu 10.10 on for PC Pro Mag. but it did not like this. I was trying in install the the shorten download for Super OS that I have downloaded. it's called part or bits I think. Richard |

"/etc/apt/sources.list", not "/etc/apt/sources".
The error message says "are you root?". That means you need to use "sudo". Evo2. |
Thanks Evo2,
Sorry I am not sure what that means "sudo" Is this "sudo" used in terminal, and do I go about solving my problem? Richard 14 |
Hi,
it seems you are a little bit greener than I at first thought. I suggest you spend a little time reading some documentation. For example: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo Also, I think that unless you have a burning need for something in "Super OS" you may do well to stick with standard Ubuntu for a little while. Spend some time getting to know the system. Cheers, Evo2. |
Thanks, Yes Very Green......Although I have had Ubuntu for 2 years I do not spend much time finding out how it can be use (I would like to very much, but I have a wife ! who does not like me using it "ALL" the time !)
Thanks for your help though. I will try to read what you have said Is there a Book that I can READ, them I am NOT on the computer ALL the time..... Thanks Again Richard |
There are many books. "The Rute Book" is good one: http://rute.2038bug.com/rute.html.gz
You may also find one of the Ubuntu specific books helpful. For example: http://www.amazon.com/s/url=search-a...eywords=ubuntu Cheers, Evo2. ---------- Post added 2011-03-02 at 12:32 ---------- There are many books.
