Talking Adding/removing packages problem(s)

Hello!

I've installed Fedora Core 5.

In the first toolbar menu, concerning the applications, I have two problems:

1. The 'Add/remove programs' application, when clicked, opens its windows, and then return an error message ("Impossible to determine...") and closes

2. It seems like I cannot change the enlisted programs in the menu (is it because I am supposed to perform this through the above mentioned function?)

I am well aware that skilled Linux-users prefer terminal command lines, but if you know anything about this problem(s)... Thank you!

Are you using Gnome or KDE for a window manager?

Also, in the error message, does it say what is impossible to determine?

Thank you.

1) I'm using Gnome

2) I remember it says that it is not possible to determine anything (some expression... I'm checking more precisely)

2) OK, the right expression I get is "Unable to retrive software information"

Any idea? Thanx
