adding redhat to other half of hd, need help
 

Hello There,
I am wanting to install Redhat 8 on the same drive as the one I have Suse9.0 on, I am wondering I guess since I already boot up with GRUBS installed with Suse, will the Redhat also use that and so what do I do when installing will the installation figure out everything on its own, if I just want it to take the other half of the hard drive? It is a 6 gb drive and I wanted to split it in half between the two until I can get a bigger drive for them to share. Thanks so much for all the help, Have a Great Day!:study:

Now on to your topic,

Install Red Hat to free space on your hard drive (you do have free space right?). When you get to the part about installing a bootloader, choose grub and install it to your /root partition. (You do not need a separate /boot partition for this install). After the installation is complete make sure you write down the grub entry for RedHat and then reboot your computer but boot into Suse. Once in Suse, edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file to add the RedHat boot entry that you wrote down (It will look something like this):

title Red Hat 8.0
root (hdx,x) <-- your root partition goes here
kernel (hdx,x)/boot/kernel-2.4.20 (your kernel version here) root=LABEL=/
initrd (hdx,x)/boot/initrd-2.4.20 (your kernel version of initrd here)


Then reboot and when grub comes up you should see this new choice in the menu, select it and see if it works.

I tried to install and choose save existing partition and use the available free space on the automatic installation, it wouldn't go it said there wasnt enough space, I know that the Suse is only using 1.7 gb and its a 6 gb drive this is what "free" came up with;

so I'm thinking will I have to use Disk Druid and actually put in the amounts I want to designate?T was thinking of splitting it in half,but don't understand the numbers
I am really not sure how to do that , any suggestions where to figure it out :) Thanks again for all the help
