adding printer via CUPS and SAMBA

Hi guys,,

sorry if theres a similar thread like this but i really cant find what in looking for,, so i experiment some steps..
1) #lpinfo -v

then i saw my printer in "usb:/"

2) #lpadmin -p Dell -v usb:/Dell/Laser%20Printer%201100?serial=BN45W71 -m /etc/cups/ppd/1100.ppd

but i got an error "Unable to copy PPD"
so i try adding ".gz" at the end:

3) #lpadmin -p Dell -v usb:/Dell/Laser%20Printer%201100?serial=BN45W71 -m /etc/cups/ppd/1100.ppd.gz

still i got the error "Unable to copy PPD"
but when i hit "lpstat -t" i got:

scheduler is running
device for Dell: usb:/Dell/Laser%20Printer%201100?serial=BN45W71
Dell accepting request since Fri 14 Sep 2012 06:03:35

and when i check the network to see my printer, its there, so i try connecting now to my windows machine, it somehow connect but it does not have a driver so i provide it separately, after that, i got an error "Windows could not connect to the printer. Check the printer name and try again........"

is there something that im missing here?? kindly help..

Exposing printer drivers for Windows via SAMBA is a very weird thing, and it never worked for me.
There's some information about this at http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/...html#id2634359
But it's much more easier to get the windows driver installed on the windows machines and select the driver for your printer.
