adding fonts
 

I need to add more fonts... do I need special "linux" fonts or are they the same as Windows fonts?
(if they are different... where can I go to download linux fonts?)

its both, same and different .. linux fonts have support for the same format as the windows ones (true type fonts) .. and only include support for a few others, mostly bitmap fonts (think ugly fonts) ..

as for how to install ... thats a bit tricky, what distribution do you have (as some come with utils to make it easy)

Marie, I'm currently using Windows' Tahoma font for Mandrake and Fedora. I've also used Windows' Comic font in the past. To get the desired Windows font I usually go to the control panel in Linux and import them directly from Windows. Never a problem. Sometimes the fonts are available right away, other times I've had to log out of X and then log back in before they are available. I didn't notice what distro you are running. In Fedora there is a font folder where you can use drag and drop. In Mandrake use Start > System > Configuration > Configure your computer. System tab, fonts. That is where you can import. Hope that helps. Let me know how you make out.

I'm using SuSE Linux 9.1

I don't have Windows on my computer right now... can I download fonts online that are meant for Windows?
