These little silly huawei modems should work with later kernels without much hassle. You should be able to connect using it just configuring your dialer with the correct information, just like any regular modem. However it might be a bit tricky on some distros/kernels to get it running.

Also, remember that extra symbols (??!!) are not gonna give you a faster response rate
