adb mouse-yes/usb mouse-no. Why?

I inherited a Mac clone PowerCenter 150 from work. I followed the instructions at WildOxMedia.com to install Mandrake 9.1. Worked fine--boots Mac OS X off of a zip disk, then uses BootX for Mandrake off the 2GB hard drive. I have added memory and usb ports and plugged a 2 button usb mouse into one of the ports. It seems that Mandrake sees this mouse, but only the one button adb mouse works.
Mouseconfig didn't seem to fix this. I am going to buy a 2 button adb mouse, but wondered why the usb mouse didn't work.
Please talk slow. I'm a middle-aged mom who's extremely new to Linux and only been around Macs for about a year. (My family thinks I'm nuts.)
Thanks.
