Active X session

Okay i have to install these drivers for redhad 9, but in the installation is says the $Display is set and I am in a active session of X and is strongly recommends that i run this installation outside of X. So my question is how do i do this? Any and all help would be greatly apreciated.

To shut down Xwindows open a terminal, become root and enter init 3 - that will drop you down to the command prompt. To get back to a graphical environment type in init 5
You can alter what run level your system boots to by editing /etc/inittab and setting initdefault.
