What command will display a list of active jobs?

What kind of jobs? You have 'jobs', a command to display processes in the backgrund of a terminal.
Other commands is ps, pstree or top. These will list variuos processes on your computer depending on arguments.

or "lpstat -t" for printers + associated jobs.
