Activate my TV tuner

i have recently installed Linux Ubuntu on a dual boot, and I love it, but I am still finding out how to use it to the full. Is it possible to activate the TV tuner in my HP desktop in the same way as it works with Windows Media Player? I have checked the media players I can locate via Linux, but none seem to be able to activate the TV tuner.

You might need to install the appropriate linux nVidia driver for your video card and tv. I'm not familiar with ubuntu, but slackware's standard video driver would not recognize my tv at all.

It would help to know which TV Tuner card you have.

However, tvtime seems to work with many of them.

tvtime is included, but optional, with many Linux distributions

Some software might include things like mythtv or packages to add to your install. Vlc can play some. Some other players can play them.
