Question ACPI patch RH9 2.4.20_30.9

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Linux and I've got RH9 goin and wanted to know how to install ACPI into my kernel. I've found out that apmd doesnt work so apparently i have no power control on my laptop. I'm tryin to install ACPI because its a new laptop and my bios supports it and my WinXP runs it perfect. Anyway, I'm doing the following in the root:

patch -p1 < acpi-20040311-2.4.25.diff

and then it gives me the following:

[root@localhost linux-2.4.20-30.9]# patch -p1 < acpi-20040311-2.4.25.diff
patching file Documentation/Configure.help
Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n]

At this point I'm not sure what to do.
It then asks me for a file to patch which I have no clue what file name to key in.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
