acpi laptop problem

hello
I've heard alot about acpi but do not know how to turn it on. My problem is that whenever im running on battery and i load kde, it immediatly logs off without giving me the chance to do anything.
I have fedora core 2 with the 2.6.5 kernel

can someone tell me how to solve my problem?//

How old is your laptop ?
On older PC's (Pentium 1) I had to turn it off in the BIOS or a few minutes without moving the mouse or keypressed it goes down and was not more to awake. Even during I was working on it trough ssh !
