AcidRip message - DVD not found. Drive empty?
My name is John (aka: Popeye258). I am a newbie to "Acidrip". My problem is simple --- I keep getting the following message when I attempt to convert a dvd disc to an AVI file: "AcidRip message - DVD not found. Drive empty?"
My system is a Linux Mint Version 14.1 (Nadia) Mate 32 Bit. The disc has a "Volume Identifier" enbedded at the beginning of the disc. The file extensions assocaited with the movie are (.BUP, .IFO, and .VOD). The Acidrip program does read/load the dvd disc (running time located in general tab - video source section). Apparently, the program reads/loads the disc but will not encode the movie. What seems to be the problem? Please help! Any assistance would be greatly appreicated. Thank-you in advance. John |
drop down the debug box at the bottom of the app and post the contents here. Thanks.
Note that I've not officially updated that app in 7 years though! I'm amazed it works at all still! |
Even as such, it can still be useful! I was using it for ripping all my DVDs until recently (just nothing to rip, honestly), and it did a very goog job on all of them (Mallrats was the only I can remember where it gave bad results). I'm sure as long as the dependent programs don't make any major changes it'll continue to be fine as is.

Acid Kewpie
Thank-you Chris for getting back to me. First off, the program works beautifully except for this one issue. I have successfully converted 3 movies AFTER encountering this issue. Now, to the business at hand. By re-enacting my steps to the problem, I seem to have resolved my own issue. If the problem re-occurs, I would like to contact you directly. Thank-you again. Darn, so that's why it's not in the repo's any more.
Please delete this if it's out of place but I now rip with dd and find I sometimes have to play the DVD in a media player before it will rip. I have at least one DVD that still won't rip when I do that. Does anyone know a way around this? It's a shame you gave up the program acid_kewpie -- I think it's well liked. [For legal reason I point out I use these programs to copy DVDs I own to my own hard drive in ways where president is set in UK law.] |
no idea how to fix your problem if you don't provide any details on it.
I stopped as I had kids and all that. life takes over! |
Can't blame you for that :D.
The problem I'm experiencing is when I put a DVD in my drive and try to rip it I see the following (number of bytes copies varies): Code:
$ dd if=/dev/sr0 of=dvdcopy.iso However, if I then proceed to open the DVD in VLC or Kaffeine it will almost always rip using dd afterwards. I'm assuming I just need to do something to ensure the device is ready for reading before I dd but I have no idea what that would be. Oh, the drive is a Pioneer USB DVD RW/multi recorder but I seem to recall having this problem with IDE drives also. |
