acer laptop mod. no. 5500,redhat ws 4 x server problem

hi

i have installed Linux WS 4(Nahant) on my acer laptop, model no.Aspire5500.
the error message it is showing is :
"i cannot start the x server (your graphical interface). Its is likely that it is not set up correctly.......

x window system version 6.8.1..

"

Can you please tell me the likely reason and any solution for this.May be i think its LCD display is not supporting Linux display.

How to configure it?

thanks in advance..

You can hit CTRL+ALT+F1 for a terminal to work from, and edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf to make the correct screen resolution available. If the display is 1280x800, you'll need a package called '915resolution'.

Additionally, check the HCL. For some reason, people never check it, yet their problems seem to be because of it.

HCL is the Hardware Compatibility List and there's a link at the top of the forums.
