Acdtrux options when compress backup.tar file ..


Hello to all ;

I have to transport colection of files across directories.
I checked following method. but i am getting error.
kindly say some suggestions to resolve followng error.

PHP Code:
# tar  -cf   backup.tar  f1 f2 f3 f4
# ls -l 
PHP Code:
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 307200 Jan 18 09:46  backup.tar
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  74471 Jan 18 09:45 f1
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  74471 Jan 18 09:45 f2
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  74471 Jan 18 09:45 f3
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  74471 Jan 18 09:45 f4 
PHP Code:
# tar - cvzf newbackup.tar.gz backup.tar
tarYou must specify one of the `-Acdtrux' options
Try 
`tar --help' for more information. 
I googled about actrux option. even i drop Z still i am getting error. Thanks in advance ..

Remove the space between the - and your options
Code:
tar -cvzf newbackup.tar.gz backup.tar

I'd also add there's no point in tarring something twice. If you want a compressed (gzipped) tar, just use
Code:
tar -cvzf backup.tar.gz  f1 f2 f3 4
