Accidentally removed part of the FC5 base packages

Hi,

My machine is running Fedora Core 5. I accidentally removed a package (libxml2) and part of its dependencies (100/250 roughly, when realized and I killed the proccess) which turned up to be part of the base repository.

Immediatly after I couldn't run yum, since it needed the libxml2 module of Python. I installed the latest version of libxml2 and yum was again ok.

But a lot of the features from the Panel aren't working. I tried Add/Remove Software in order to see what I have to install, but it doesn't work. Also, some icons dissapeared from the menus...

'yum update' does not change the situation, probably because many packages appear to be installed, but in fact they are missing something.

I'm trying to avoid rebooting and I hope to find some way of reinstalling these important packages.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Andrei

well if yum is working ok, then i'd suggest trying to install as many removed packages as you can remember. install the most complex end user stuff which is likely to have the most dependencies and you're likely to have most of it reinstalled. you can also reinstall base groups from the original installation if need be using "yum groupinstall groupname" etc...

Yeah, I ran 'yum groupinfo' first and then with yum I installed what was missing from every group package. Although there might be some things missing, most of it is here again.

Thanks for the hint,
Andrei
