I have a Dell D420 Latitude. Partions C (35 GB)with Win XP Pro on it.
I installed Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy -(option 2-in Windows installation) in D (45 GB) partition. Most of my Win files & folders are in D.
I find , in ubuntu, I cannot access Win files in D drive. I can access files in C drive only.
Any suggestions pls
Dorai
I've never heard of installing linux on the same partition as windows. As far as I can tell from what you've said it sounds like you installed Ubuntu over a windows drive, which would most likely format it to a linux filesystem (ext3), wiping out all the data you had there.
Just installed 8.10 dual booting with winXP. Provided you did your partitions so you didn't overwrite your present windoze partition you should be able to go to Places and find the windoze hard drive or partition needed. You will need to "mount" this drive/partition. Just click on the partition and the mount window will pop up. You must be "root" to do the administrative task of mounting. Once done you will be able to click on your windows files but linux can only interpret some of them. Certain files and formats require extra linux modules to see---especially videos and music but simple text files or jpgs should be available. Enjoy!

Hi,
Your windows drive hosting the ubuntu linux is already mounted on /host on bootup. You can find all your files in that windows drive using /host/
