Accessing ubuntu Desktop from Windows

I need some help finding a better solution. I tried out the vino vnc server and connected to it through windows vnc viewer but It seems to lag really badly. I am connecting through a 100mb connection. I would like to try out the vnc4server but I can't find a good tutorial on setting it up where I can login to my system from gdm. Somebody please either point me to the best solution or a good tuturial. Thanks
