Accessing EMail from desktop client(outlook/thunderbird)

Hey everyone

I set up and email server using dovecot and sendmail and am currently accessing all email from SquirrelMail web based client.

I am looking to move from using SM to a desktop based client, specifically Thunderbird or Outlook.

Where abouts would I find all the settings needed to transfer over? It usually asks the name of the pop3/imap server such as pop3.site.com or imap.site.com. Is it standard to be just pop3.site.com? Would i just type that in?

Also, what about the SMTP out server? Is this located in a config file somewhere?

Not so bright when it comes to this

pop and smtp server names would be the DNS name of your mail server..
you could also use the IP address of your mail server for those entries...
