accessing a CentOS box by SSH?

What do I need to have in order to access a CentOS box with SSH (without having to rely on a RJ-45 or the internet?)?

I want to use one of my PC as a server, if I could do so without the monitor, then it's all gravy. What's the name of the cable I need to do so?

(Ok, I say SSH, but as long as I can get a command prompt while I'm in the same room, I'm happy)
Newb question I know.

Ethernet?

I don't get your question. You want to access via SSH - a network protocol - without using a network cable (Ethernet cables have RJ45 plugs). Huh?

Have a look at this link, it shows may different standard connectors found on systems. This may help you find the one you are looking for. The link -->http://www.nullmodem.com/NullModem.htm

RJ-45 can be used for many things. Ethernet is only one of them. You can set it up as a direct connection with a cross-over ethernet cable. You can buy them at a good PC hardware store, or wire your own. They are wired differently to the ones that connect to a hub or router.

For ssh you need some kind of connection, a null modem can work if the system you want to connect from is in the same room, over a short distance.
