Access Linux SAMBA Server from Ubuntu 10.04 Client

Friends

I have Rhel 5 enterprise Linux where samba server configured in workgroup.

Our clients are with the operating system Windows Xp service pack 2, windows vista.

Now the problem came when some more clients are added with the operating system Ubuntu 10.0.4

Current scenario in Windows

The users are of two types "USER1" "USER2"

USER1 is having permission to open his own private folder and some common folders of all users.

USER2 is having permission to open common floders of all users with the authenticity.

When in windows I type \\172.16.2.4

It is asking for the username and password (ex:uname:user1 pwd:user1) It is showing the user1 private folder and all the common folders.

Where as when iam trying in ubuntu 10.04 by typing smb://172.16.2.4 it is showing all the common folders. without username and password but when i tried to open it is asking for the username and password.

here the problem is how to access the private folder the user is layman. he dont know the share name and even they dont want to remember. In windows it asked for username and password and it shows all the common including the private.

So I tried to create the shortcut to private folder. So that whenever they click the shortcut it is asking for the username and password that user able to login and see.

Now the main problem is one another user came and want to access his private folder from that system where shortcut is not there.

What i want is shall i open users private folder (without knowing the sharename like in windows) just using ipaddress and username, password.

or Mounting SAMBA Shares on Desktop (shortcuts on the desktop to access SAMBA shares of that particular user).

thanks
