access files over ssh as local files

Hi I want to access files via ssh, as the were local; I noticed gnome allows you to do it by going to foot->places->"connect to server". The problem is when I goto the new mounted directory I have to navigate to my home. This is not easy since its the schools computer and their directory structure is complicated. Is it possible when I open the network folder it automatically goes to my home directory for that network?

I use Debian

Thanks

Edit:
Wondering around I thought I would give sshfs a try. and it does a better job . I'm happy now
