Acces to msn messenger for direct chat, i just can't manage

I've been with Linux 2 weeks, love it. I have "PIDGIN" for linking with Windows Live hotmail. I just can't make it "across" to chat with other people via. messenger direct chat. pidgin is opened, my hotmail is set to "activated", i go in my hotmail account and when i press Windows Live Mail, next page that appears offers me to download Windows Live messenger which i already have downloaded. Please help.

You cannot use that downloaded WLM app in Gnu/Linux (unless it can run under wine), all you do in Pidgin is select the msn protocol and add your msn username and password details, click save, then login.
