absolutely very new 'n stuff...help needed

Hi...

Just a couple of things (for now)...

I would like to know what the best (and most straightforward) mail program is that I can use if anyone can help......

aaaAAAAnd... I need to know how to uninstall all the other stuff that I don't need (I only need one graphics prog... html editor-I quite like bluefish..mail..)

Please be gentle with the techno-babble and bear in mind that my line command is about as good as my powers of telekinesis.

fanks :)[

I like kmail.Its fairly easy to setup and if you click on a link posted to your email,it fires up konqueror.(This assumes you use kde.)Go into kmail and on the menu bar,choose file>settings.You only really have to use the 1st two pages.
To set up kmail you need:
your email address
in the network part of settings:
choose smtp
location=/usr/bin/sendmail
server=isp's mail server name
incoming mail=your email address
type=pop
port=25
folder=inbox
The Netscape or Mozilla mail programs are okay and also easy to setup.I know some CLI die-hards use elm and pine and you'll likely hear from them soon.;)
As far as uninstalling stuff you dont need,just bring up your package manager and choose what packages you want to uninstall.You may want to run a test(doesnt uninstall anything)to be sure it doesnt $&(@up any other program.This also assumes you are using an rpm-based system.Debian uses DEBs and Slackware uses tarballs.
What distribution and ver. of Linux are you using?

i found kmail to be very nasty, it takes all the mail out of /var/spool/mail, where it should belong! use pine!

thanks..

thank you..that wasn't too painful, by the way I'm using Mandrake 7.2 (had it lying around for ages waiting for me to be brave!!)..will upgrade it when the full release of 8.1 is ready.
I am currently using Kmail and had a fiddle with the mail part of Staroffice which seemed a bit "faffy" really....

It's taken about a week of tweaking but I'm now running Triboot...win98se..win2k and Mandrake...although 98 has been converted into a seedy seaside amusment arcade !!..about all it seems good for now...

MAN you should of seen the trouble my friend and I had getting my FA311 (netgear) Network card running..

Thanks again...I'm sure you'll here from me soon !!
