Unhappy about soft link


hi

my question is can we use the soft link in ftp.

i.e means i put the soft link in /var/ftp/pub

when anonimus user loging can he read the soft link ? If yes how? If no Why?

plz clarify my doubt .

I agree... "just try it, and then you'll know."

Certainly, FTP-servers (the computers that respond to your FTP connection requests...) can be told whether-or-not to honor "soft links." (They do this so that visitors can't "jump the fence.") Therefore, by far the easiest and simplest way to determine if this is an issue in your case is ... to simply try it. "Either it works or it doesn't, and either way, 'now you know.' No harm, no foul."

For the Peanut Gallery... A "soft link" is a form of directory-entry that "leads to somewhere else." An FTP-server might reasonably want to confine the visitor to "only 'here'," and therefore might wish to dishonor soft-links. It's really up to the owner of the FTP-site.
