Hi,

Too my knowledge the location of the ntpd pid file (if used) is set in this file: /etc/sysconfig/ntpd

Hope this helps.

hi druuna
i know that file
but i think thats not ntpd.pid file thats text file?
please check and read the following..

To deactivate the NTP service, you must stop the existing ntpd service, disable it from the initialization sequences and remove the ntp.conf file. To complete these steps on Oracle Enterprise Linux, run the following commands as the root user on both Oracle RAC nodes:

[root@racnode1 ~]#

/sbin/service ntpd stop
[root@racnode1 ~]#

chkconfig ntpd off
[root@racnode1 ~]#

mv /etc/ntp.conf /etc/ntp.conf.original
Also remove the following file:

[root@racnode1 ~]#

rm /var/run/ntpd.pid

please suggest me about the above commands...

Hi,

Do look inside the file I mentioned (/etc/sysconfig/ntpd) to check if the ntpd.pid file is created in /var/run. If that is the case:

If /var/run/ntpd.pid isn't present then all is ok and you can continue with what you are doing.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

What are you trying to do?

In post #3 you show (and exectued??) steps that disable ntpd and in post #5 you try to start ntpd......

If you want to undo the steps you did in post #3 (you want to enable ntpd again) follow these stesp:
Code:
mv /etc/ntp.conf.original /etc/ntp.conf
chkconfig ntpd on
/sbin/service ntpd start
Hope this helps.

One is the name of the service (ntp) and the other the name of the ntp daemon (ntpd).

I'm not sure what you mean by use instead. ntpd is one part of the whole ntp service. I guess the answer to your question is no.

If you followed the steps in post #6, it should work again (the reboot is not needed).

Hope this helps.

ntp will not start because the ntp.conf file isn't present (look at your post #5, that is what will happen).

I never installed or used oracle grid, so I cannot help you with that. I do assume there is an installation manual you can follow.

Hope this helps.
