Smile About MX

Dear Friend ,

I have two question about MX (Mail Exchanger )

1) Why MX is necessary for a mail server ?

2 ) If i have a DNS Server (server.example.com) ANd I have another Mail server (redhat.com) using different machine
then is it necessary to make any MX for my Mail server ? And what will the MX entry and
where it should be located ?

Plz Inform me................................... THX

There is no reason why maili for a certain domain should go to the ip address of the machine registered as example.com or whatever. that would probably send you towards a web server, and there is no way it could accept mail. the MX record specifically defines where email for that domain name should be sent, which could be a whole buynch of different places depending on how you wish to handle your email.
