a7v8x knoppix can't get my network card working...

hi there-

i'm new to linux and i'm trying to learn it before i install it on my computer. i'm trying out knoppix and it seems great so far but i'm having a problem getting my network card to work with it.

most things autodetect and work great, but my network card isn't working and i cant go to any sites. i'm a linux newbie and i have been looking in the knoppix forums but most of the people in the forums are german and i posted for help and haven't gotten an answer....

i have an asus a7v8x mobo with onboard lan. its broadcom 440x 10/100 intergrated lan card.

i have the most recent knoppix release that i could find, released on june 6th 03 and i guess the kernel still doesnt support my lan card.

could someone help point me in the right direction? i would love to start digging in and playing around but its not too great without the internet. espically since i only have 1 computer and i have to reboot to windows to try and figure out any problems cause my internet isnt working!

thanks for the help, linux rules!

find out what chipset that board uses, go to the chipset manufacturers web page and see if they have a linux driver. alternatively, find out what kernel module the network adapter uses and make sure you have it (might need to recompile the kernel)

Odds are the kernel has supported the network adapter for quite some time.
