A Trust or just for fun.
Hello.
I have a question. Can you tell me why some people in large companies like Google, Yahoo and Etc use Mac OS X? I guess all of them support Linux but why Apple? Why some Linux tutorial videos or even Linux learning is in Mac OS X? Did you think about it and provide a solution's? Tnx. |
I have no clue...especially after this...
I hear that at least Google uses Linux on most of the machines in the offices and Ubuntu (a special cookup called Goobuntu) on all the servers. But they encourage you to use whatever works, wheather that be Lin, Win (more like loose, but whatever), or Mac. All the tools needed for example Android development are made cross platform. Yahoo, who knows. Etc, never heard of them, quick Google search wasn't helpful. |
Macs have traditionally been strong in the creative industries; Graphic design, Music recording and processing, Newspaper and magazine production, Video processing (as mentioned by the OP) Web design, etc. OS X is also less virus prone than Windows with Macs seen as being more of a consumer appliance rather than a computer, which "Just Works". Google's heavily into design; googleglass (or whatever's coming next) driverless cars, etc
So it rather looks like horses for courses plus Macs have a very staunch user base. My :twocents: Play Bonny! :hattip: |
As I heard it, at Google only senior staff are allowed Macs if they ask for them, as a privilege of rank!
As for their use in publishing, I believe that Apple was ahead of the game in enabling the computer to be calibrated for colour, so that what showed on the screen was exactly what appeared on the printed page. |
A few years old, but:
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/...r+development+ Reportedly, even the FreeBSD developers use Mac OSX. I'm not a developer, but I do use Mac OSX 9-10 hours a day, 5 days a week (commercial printing industry). It is very stable and robust, never crashes. I do think, personally, that 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) was the pinnacle for Mac OSX. I'm not particularly happy with 10.10 (Yosemite), it's kinda buggy. |
Google uses Goobuntu http://www.zdnet.com/article/the-tru...-ubuntu-linux/
"Googlers must ask to use Windows because “Windows is harder because it has 'special' security problems so it requires high-level permission before someone can use it.” In addition, “Windows tools tend to be heavy and inflexible.” I read another article not long ago and it said the employees can choose to use a Mac if they want, but need special permission for Windows because Google is such a big "target" for hackers. At least we don't have to worry about them dropping a linux Chrome version! |

Macbook Pros are great to work on because they have high resolution displays. That's a big reason why they're popular among developers.

Are you kidding? It never Crash!!! I plug a WD HDD 3TB with NTFS to iMac and I see Kernel panic page like below : http://support.apple.com/library/APP..._KP-001-en.jpg I'm sure you Wrong. I saw Kernel Panic but never see it in Linux. |
Can anyone Explain The philosophy of Apple for me? I guess Apple Claimed that it will destroy IBM PC but how about it? I worked with iMac 10.6.8 and 1.9 and I just See IBM with new shell and Unix with new GUI. Why Apple use IBM compatible hardware? I guess it is a big fail for Apple.
